Beginner Level – Plectrum Technique

< BACK Subscribe Now Subscriber Login

This beginner plectrum course takes you from the absolute basics, through to playing alternate picking lines across all four strings of the bass. This course contains the following sub-courses (click on each one to see to the full content).

Getting Started

This course covers the absolute basics of plectrum playing: finding the right pick, holding it correctly, strap length and the differences between alternate and economy picking.

Alternate Picking (Part 1)

This video course covers the basic mechanics of the alternate picking technique. Initially this is demonstrated on a single string, then all four strings.

String Crossing/Skipping

This course expands on the alternate picking technique, now putting it to use in a series of exercises that focus on crossing and skipping strings.

Alternate Picking (Part 2)

This course delves deeper into the alternate picking technique, this time focusing on lines that begin on upbeats, and the concept of playing ‘silent downstrokes’.
