The previous video course covered the first ‘box shape’, an extremely usable group of notes that fall easily under the hand at any point on the fingerboard. This course will take this concept a little further, adding one more note to the existing shape.

This lesson will introduce the second box shape. This is essentially the same as the first shape, but with an added note that can make your lines more interesting.
This exercise makes use of both of the box shapes: the second is used throughout the first three bars, with the first used in the fourth bar.
This is a rock riff that makes use of the second box shape from the open E-string position. Remember that it’s important to know these shapes in open positions.
In this exercise the new box shape is used from D in the first bar, A in the second and G in the third. Watch out for the staccato (short) notes in the fourth bar.
Here’s another exercise which uses the new box shape from the open strings. Take care to mute the open strings as you move from the first bar into the second.
This exercise is a sparse funk groove that makes use of the new box shape in the second and fourth bars. Offbeat rhythms are used here once again.
