In this course you’ll learn to play some simple basslines that use the open A-string and two notes found within the first few frets: the B at the second fret and the C at the third.

This short video will introduce you to two notes on the A-string. Along with the open A, these notes will then be put to use in a simple bassline.
This exercise uses the open A-string and the two new notes: B and C. A new rhythm is also used here – the eighth note – which lasts for half of a beat.
This exercise is a continuous eighth note bassline, something that bass players are often required to play. As you play, alternate the fingers of your picking hand.
This exercise also uses some of the notes on the E-string that have been covered. As you’ll discover, good muting is essential when moving from string to string.
This exercise makes use of the eighth note rest. As this rest is used on the first part of some beats, there will be instances where you are playing on the upbeat only.
