Level 42 – ‘Dune Tune’
This instrumental piece is from Level 42’s self-titled debut album, which was released back in August 1981. The highlight of this track is a melodic line that uses open string tenths and double stops to imply harmony. This makes it a great line to play solo, and indeed, Mark King has often used it in his live bass solos.
In addition to the melodic line, this track includes a tight, funky fingerstyle line and a closing slapped section which makes use of strummed chords and fretting hand slaps.
A full transcription of this piece can be found in The Mark King Bass Book, which is available to purchase on Amazon. The transcription is not required for the video course.
