This study piece is the first of five longer pieces that will enable you to put everything you’ve learned on this course to the test. This piece is a rock bassline that for the most part, is built on simple eighth note patterns. You can play this piece with either your fingers or a plectrum.

This video is a demonstration of Study Piece #1. It was recorded on a 1966 Fender Jazz bass strung with stainless steel Rotosound strings.

This video covers the A section of this piece, which features an eighth note bassline. This lesson covers bars 1-8 in the accompanying transcription.

3. B Section

This lesson covers the B section of the piece, which makes use of the blues scale and some slightly more adventurous rhythms. This lesson covers bars 9-16.
